What Is Faith?

The dictionary defines faith as:
(1) unquestioning belief, especially in God
(2) complete trust or confidence
(3) loyalty

"faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear."
Hebrews 11:1-3

"we walk by faith, not by sight"
2 Corinthians 5:7

When we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, we are "born again", we are given new spiritual eyes to see and new ears to hear - the measure of faith given to us comes alive and we begin to understand things with an entirely new perspective..

Faith is to believe even when we do not see or understand how God is leading us.

Faith is not a 'blind faith'; it is faith in a very real person, Jesus Christ.

Faith is trust. Faith is believing. Faith is knowing that no matter what, God is real, Jesus Christ is real and no matter the circumstances around you....there is a light--there is One who is bigger than everything around us and there is a bigger purpose than what we can understand.

Faith is not a feeling.
Feelings can betray us. Feelings can be false. Feelings are physical & are not of the Spirit. Therefore feelings can not be trusted because they can be altered by incorrect information coming at us from all kinds of directions.

"God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith."
Romans 12:3b

Every single person on this earth is given the measure of faith.
That means that it is possible for every single person to choose to open their heart to the Lord and receive his gift of Salvation. There is a measure of faith given to everyone which gives them the ability to believe, to receive and to know that God is real....if we are willing to humble ourself and make the physical choice to receive the gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ in faith. This is our first step in faith - it is by faith, that we receive salvation.

God says that just faith alone cannot produce answers to our prayers. God says that it starts with taking action in faith. Taking action such as praying, reading the Bible, meeting with other believers to learn and grow, and believing in the Lord as we take our life step by step in faith..

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God".
Romans 10:17

For our faith to increase we must get to know the Words of instruction that has been provided to us. Read the Bible. Don't just listen to what other's say about the Bible, read God's Word for yourself and pray for God to help you understand as you read.

Joshua 1:8 says,
"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success".

Hebrews 11:6 says,
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him."

Will My Faith Grow Stronger?

Faith isn't measured in size or quantity -- rather it grows by strength. Trial and error in our lives help our faith to grow each & every day. Sometimes we get it wrong--and that's okay. God knows your heart and He loves you no matter what. Remember, each time we fall down, we get back up in faith and learn from that experience.

Write a daily or weekly journal of your prayers to God, and write later of how God answered them. Go back and read last years' journal and see all that you have learned. Sometimes, we need to go through the same thing over and over until we finally 'get it'. By keeping a journal, you can go back and remember your journey and be reminded of the things that you have already learned so that you don't need to repeat those experiences again. It helps.

Faith will carry us through every trial
and tribulation that this world can throw at us

When our feelings serve us with anger, lonliness, depression, frustration, and so on...when something or everything is going wrong and we are struggling just to keep our senses.....say to yourself: "I am a child of God, I believe He sent His only Son Jesus Christ who died for me so that I am protected from the wages of sin. I have eternal life with God and this world and the things in it are just temporary. God has greater plans for me, I have a future and hope. I am not alone, I am not lost, I am forgiven in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and no matter how I 'feel' I KNOW that God is with me, He hears me, sees me and through Him I will overcome in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ."

Faith is just taking one more step with Jesus; it's believing God for one more minute, one more hour, one more day, and because we do not give up on God no matter what is happening, we are trusting that even if the outcome is not what we desired, we know that it won't be long before we will begin to see the clouds clear and the blessings flow.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame,
and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2

God Bless you all Paster Bob
