JESUS TRIED BEFORE PILATE

and

HIS CRUCIFIXION

WHY DID JESUS HAVE TO DIE?

The Sanhedrin took Jesus to Pilate because the Romans had denied them the authority to inflict capital punishment. Pilate would have to pronounce the legal sentence

Mark 15:1

Jewish religious matters were of little concern to Pilate so he would not be impressed with the charge of blasphemy thus the Sanhedrin twisted the claims of Jesus to mean that He was plotting rebellion against the Romans

Mark 15:2

PILATE KNEW JESUS TO BE INNOCENT

but

He disregards his conscience in order to please the Jewish religious leaders

SCOURGING THUS TRANSPIRED

Which included being beaten mercilessly with a whip consisting of several leather thongs, each loaded with jagged pieces of metal or bone and weighted at the end with led. Fragments of flesh would be torn from the victims through this ordeal

THE VICTIM WAS THEN REQUIRED TO CARRY HIS OWN CROSS TO THE PLACE OF EXECUTION

Simon a Cyrenian was required to carry His cross when Jesus due to His weakened condition was unable to do so

Jesus cry in Mark 15:34 reflects the burden of humanity’s sin as He completely identified with us thus sensing a real abandonment by God

Crucifixion was the roman penalty for rebellion. Although jesus was innocent according to roman law pilate caved in to political pressure abandoning what he knew was right and true..

When we lay aside god’s revealed will, our decisions cause us to fall into compromise and lawlessness.

God promises to honor those who do what is right not those who make everyone happy

Jesus endured this horrendous suffering because of his love for us

Our only adequate response is in confessing our sin and freely accepting the fact that jesus paid for it

Don’t insult god with indifference toward the greatest act of genuine love ever demonstrated in history

JESUS DECLARED

“IT IS FINISHED”

and

when the curtain separating the most Holy Place was rent from the top to the bottom it revealed that Jesus has stood in the gap on our behalf that we might receive forgiveness thereby opening up the way that we might approach God

JESUS DEATH WAS CONFIRMED BY THE CENTURION, PILATE, JOSEPH of ARIMATHEA, THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS AND THE WOMEN WHO WITNESSED HIS BURIAL

The women could do very little but they did what they could and stayed at the cross when the disciples had fled following Jesus body to the tomb using the opportunities they had thus being the first to witness His resurrection

AS BELIEVERS WE SHOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITIES WE HAVE and DO WHAT WE CAN FOR CHRIST instead of WORRYING ABOUT WHAT WE CANNOT DO

As these women prepared spices to anoint the body of Jesus so we likewise in being

VESSELS of PRAISE

release His Resurrection Power

as we so

ABIDE IN CHRIST with HIS WORDS RESIDENT and ACTIVATED in our HEART and LIFE

Jesus has provided salvation that includes deliverance and restoration

If we would but believe

How great is the love of Christ on our behalf

O THAT WE WOULD THUS RESPOND RELATING TO HIS LOVE IN AN ONGOING WAY THAT REACHES OUT WITH HOPE ONE TO ANOTHER
