“Don’t be afraid; just believe.” (Mark 5:36 NIV) These are words spoken by our Lord Jesus Christ preparing to revive and to heal a twelve year old daughter of a synagogue leader name Jairus. Jesus and the leader Jairus were told upon arrival that the young lady was already dead and that he should simply let Jesus be. Now, for many of us in the church arena that would have been the signal to simply begin to comfort the gentleman for the loss of his daughter, but not to continue in and still have the faith to believe in the power of God. Jesus did not do this however. He asked everyone to leave the girl accept the mother and father of the child and his disciples. With two simply words Jesus Christ our lord took the girls hand and said “Talitha Koum” – Meaning little girl, I say to you, get up! The girl immediately stood and began to walk around.
Many of us would have feared going in, after hearing of the pronouncing of her death due to persecution or failure .But as followers of Jesus we need to mold ourselves to his likeness- amen. Jesus knew who he was in the Kingdom and he knew the authority in which he had. Fear is a fruit of disbelief or faithlessness, boiling over in the pot of human arrogance and selfishness. It’s when we know who we are in the Kingdom – that we can stand not in arrogance but true confidence – and that confidence is in our Lord Jesus. In him – there is no fear.
Who are we in the kingdom exactly? If we read in 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV) we will see this. “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” Wow did you read that – We are a chosen people and what else? We are a royal priesthood! Take a few moments and simply let that one scripture speak to you. Let is soak into the deepest parts of yourself. Let it remind you of who you are in Jesus Christ, when you allow him to use you and live within you. Understand that no matter what the unbelievers say, you are indeed a vessel of his glory and his power if you walk in him.
Fear, unbelief and doubt are deceptions used by evil to change your perception of who you are and what you can do. Evil attempts to use our human frailties and weaknesses and convince us that because we are sinful people, God surely would not use us in this magnificent manner. The thing is – it’s nothing more than a lie. Upon giving your life to the Lord Jesus I don’t care where you are or what you have done. You are forgiven and are a new creation in the eyes of our God. Reading this in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV) it says – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old has gone, the new is here! If anyone tells you your sin was too great. They my friends are nothing more than a liar and not of God.
“Just believe” that is what he said –amen. But some would ask, what do we believe in – and that is a good question to ask. We are believing not, in ourselves (meaning our flesh) but we believe in that, which lives within the faithful believer. Let’s look at the word of God regarding this. Reading in 1 John 4:4 (NIV) we read this –“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” You see the spirit of God dwells within the real Christian, and through our true submission to God, that allows the flow of healing and other magnificent manifestations of his glory to flow right thru our human hands and to perform the great miracles that God said would take place. Do you remember what Jesus said about his people and miracles? In John 14:12 (NIV) It reads “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. Go now – Don’t be afraid –Just believe.
