Does God Kill? |
||||
Q. Does God kill? God is not only full of mercy, He is also perfectly just. We can trust Him to deal rightly with every person. Of course, we find a lot of other killing in the Old Testament. This does not mean that God endorsed every instance. Rather, what we read in the Bible is simply an honest historical account of what happened after sin entered this world.

Comment by Jim Kinson on July 19, 2012 at 4:16pm Greetings Brandon, I would like to add on your discussion titled Does God Kill. You did a good job keeping it basic for many new believers, although there are some that would says that the Bible clearly states God does kill and did. I am in hopes that I can clear this discussion up. You hit the nail on the head when you said "God is not only full of mercy, He is also perfectly just."
Many say that God killed the 1st born of the Egyptians If you read Exodus chapter 12, you will see that the God commanded Moses and Arron to have the congregation of Israel kill a lamb, unblemished and collect the blood to sprinkle on the door post.
Exodus 12:12-13 KJV (12) For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. (13) And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
Many people see the smite part and don't read any further. So who did kill all these people of Egypt?
Exodus 12:23 KJV
(23) For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
I am working on a sermon for this Sunday and I am including part of this in the message in it.
May God richly bless you, Jim
