Last night, we covered; 1108. gnosis gno'-sis from 1097; knowing (the act), i.e. (by implication) knowledge:--knowledge, science. Greek word for knowledge, can be described as a vertical list of facts. You know, the thing we like to do in making steps or formulas for faith etc. We see in 1 Cor.8:1 that gnosis alone ten...ds to puff up or make one proud.
Growth requires growing in God's word, but Paul also mentions growing in grace. The goal being that a little knowledge brings us to a deeper knowledge or "fuller" and ultimately to an "understanding" of the TRUTH, and this resulting in wisdom. The bible says in 2 Timothy 3:7; Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
When God's word is telling us to grow in knowledge, it is usually speaking to us of this deeper knowledge, which is; The Greek word epignosis #1922 in your Strongs and from 1921; recognition ie.(by implication) full discernment, acknowledgement. This leads us to; "sunesis" or a flowing together of two rivers. You ever had a verse connect with two or three others and you had a better understanding? This is those facts merging together, the two rivers, "TRUTH" and our understanding becomes deeper and wider...
2 Timothy 2:7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. Paul is speaking of "sunesis" here. You see, this is why Paul said in 1 Cor. 8 that any man thinking he knows anything does not yet understand as he ought. Is this making sense? I don't want this to just be babble or "Greek" to you. (LOL) :) Anyway, stay with us and we will continue down these two rivers which flow together into one, which is the APPLICATION of knowledge and understanding. Blessings and everyone have a wonderful day in the Lord. We love you and believe God's best for you.
