Think of your lifestyle before you became a Christian. How is your life different now? (This question was posted by Bro. Jeff about five/six years ago.)
Kept this and kept rereading it. I'm not from a religious? (christian family.)
I have 3 brothers, 2 sisters. They are not saved.(now have one sister who is saved) I have been a christian for 5 yrs.(Now have been saved going on 12 years.)
Felt lost after my husband's death, depressed , empty, knew I needed something; kept thinking church for about 2 yrs. before I broke down and entered this small church close to where I live one Sunday Morning. I hadn't been to "church" for over 30 yrs. Didn't feel in anyway worthy.
I was 60 yrs. old. This church was One God, Jesus Only. Knew nothing about these type people. (I realize there are God's children in several denominations, one day feel we'll be just one denomination, the body of God- He'll see to it.-His name will be just simply inscribed on our hearts.)
I was made to feel at home, went back that night, and have been going back ever since. They would literally have to throw me out bodily to get rid of me. It's my home, my life-line, my anchor, the place that introduced me to Jesus.
How am I different? About 6 months after I started,a group of us women were talking after service and the pastors wife made a comment that we could have a church paper if I would edit it. I picked up my purse, told her I guessed we wouldn't have one then, and went out the door. For about 3 weeks, I kept feeling guilty, kept thinking, "this is your pastor's wife you talked to that way," then kept telling myself, "she had no right asking something of me I'm not capable of. Finally I went to her and told her, I can't type, have never touched a computer, have no idea how to put anything together, but will try. She told me that God never asks anything of anyone without equipping them for it. I had never been a writer, could hardly get me to write a letter. From somewhere I started getting ideas for poems, short stories, songs, articles. 2 people from church asked me to send the magazine to friends in prison. From those two I now send to 17 prisoners in 11 different prisons in 7 different states. This is something I could never see the old me doing.I have learned more from "these people" about a loving God than they have probably learned from me.
About 6 months after I started going to church, my mom told me one Sunday morning that she was going with me. Couldn't believe it, but she did and is still going. My mom got saved at 81 yrs. of age and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, 1st time in her life which my pastor says is very unusual.(My Mom died 2 and 1/2 years ago. I am so grateful to God for drawing me to church and then drawing her. I know where she is today and that I'll one day be reunited with her.)
I was going through some of the older magazines the other day and read what I written about my niece. After I had been going to church a little while, She told me,"Aunt Ruby, you keep going to that place and you're liable to end up looking like one of those church women. At the time I wore heavy make-up, pant suits,yes,inside the church,and enough jewely to stock a small showcase.
Needless to say, I've ended up looking like "one of them." Couldn't keep from laughing.
This Christmas, my youngest brother came home for a few days. He and my middle brother were on the couch. Johnny called for Mom to come into the living room. He twirled her around and told Claude, My other brother,"to just look what our sister has done to our little old Mom.Turned her into a Holy-Roller." He doesn't know it yet,but,oneday,He's going to be one too. And I'll get to remind him, Johnny, remember when....?
I'm different in that I have hope, I have faith in a God I know cares regardless of circumstances, a God who will lift me up over and beyond the impossible. I have learned to reach farther, think the unimaginable, believe that dreams can become realities.
In moments when I think I'm worthless, All I have to remember is that the God of the universe thought me worth dying for. So in His eyes, I'm worth the world's greatest treasure.
