“America’s sins were akin to that of Israel’s and the nation was under divine judgment,” said John MacArthur, head pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, Calif. MacArthur was speaking to roughly 3,000 people on pursuing a godly life.

“Materialism, drunkard pleasure seeking, arrogant conceit, defiant sinfulness, moral perversion, and corrupt leadership… Do you not see [them] in America?” MacArthur asked.

Author of more than 150 books, the evangelical leader said, “I look at America… people say what is wrong with this country. That is what’s wrong with this country, right there. They have rejected the Word, the law of the Lord, the Holy One Himself.”
“Is there ever any end to this corruption…?” MacArthur said, ‘[leaders] who literally prostitute their position and justify wicked people for a bribe and take away the rights of the innocent people…politicians and leaders who can be bought.’”

The 72-year-old pastor encouraged the listeners to ponder on what they could do “in a nation in crisis in divine judgment.” “How do you fit, how do you make an impact?”
Speaking of the vineyard of Isaiah chapter 5, MacArthur said, “Is this God’s fault? What else could God give them?” he asked. He quoted Isaiah 5:5-7, “Now I will tell you what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled. I will make it a wasteland, neither pruned nor cultivated, and briers and thorns will grow there. I will command the clouds not to rain on it.” That’s “divine punishment,” he warned.

Suggesting that America is under divine judgment lays a foundation for claiming that the nation must get back to God. In the name of upholding the law of God, Sunday sacredness will be uplifted and laws enacted to enforce Sunday worship. See Revelation 13:15-17. Divine judgments will be blamed on those how keep God’s holy Sabbath. While it may seem impossible, yet it will happen.

“While appearing to the children of men as a great physician who can heal all their maladies, he will bring disease and disaster, until populous cities are reduced to ruin and desolation… And then the great deceiver will persuade men that those who serve God are causing these evils. The class that have provoked the displeasure of Heaven will charge all their troubles upon those whose obedience to God’s commandments is a perpetual reproof to transgressors. It will be declared that men are offending God by the violation of the Sunday sabbath; that this sin has brought calamities which will not cease until Sunday observance shall be strictly enforced; and that those who present the claims of the fourth commandment, thus destroying reverence for Sunday, are troublers of the people, preventing their restoration to divine favor and temporal prosperity.
