What a sad situation, one prisoner shared with me today after I said that I remembered him, how he had been on Alpha the last time I ran it.
He was released in April, he has been homeless for many years and made his way in life as a shoplifter. When he returned to his home are of Worthing, he could find no permanent place to live, he said "after roaming the streets with nothing to do and nowhere to go, you soon go back to drinking etc".
He tried for jobs but because of his prison record, was turned down repeatedly, he even was refused many paper round jobs he applied for. So he decided to commit another robbery, with the soul aim of being caught, so he could go back to gaol, he said " at least here you have a bed and three meals", he was imprisoned in September, and in his words "what a bonus, John was back running Alpha again" he had been turned out of several churches when he was out.
This man is to be released on next Wednesday, please pray for him to find a home!
Glen, the Anglican Chaplain said " many of those coming in at this time of the year, do so purposefully, knowing what crime to commit, so they get on the right wing of this prison"
I know these men often are to blame for some of their circumstances, but surely we should have a better structure for those who are released?
