House Divided

“If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Mark 3:25

Suppose that you’re seven years old. You arrive home from school, and your mother welcomes you with a smile and a snack. Later your father comes home. Mom and Dad greet each other with a kiss and loving words. Dad gives you a warm hug. That night, after you finish your homework, the three of you enjoy a family game. Finally, you say your prayers and fall…

Benefits Of Adversity

“We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.” Acts 14:22

There are benefits to facing adversity. One, however, rises above the rest: Trials strengthen our faith and bring us closer to the Lord, and should in many cases bring us closer to one another. Especially in marriage and family.

A steadfast faith ranks at the top of God’s system of priorities. Without it, He says, it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6). There…

Memories of the Oklahoma Tornadoes .. they struck Moore AGAIN!

May 3,1999 - Moore, Oklahoma

Jake and I had just recently moved into Evergreen Apartments directly across the street from the Moore High School.  It was small, but comfortable for our immediate needs.

We had been in business meetings all day and I was exhausted.  I had just laid down to rest before starting to prepare dinner while Jake…

The Mercy Seat

A HEBREW SAGE MIGHT SAY. . .

Real friends are those who, when you've made a fool of yourself, don't feel that you've done a permanent job.

THE MERCY SEAT

"You shall make a Mercy Seat of pure gold, two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide." [Exodus (Shemot) 25. 17 Tanakh, Torah]

Kapporeth is the Hebrew word meaning "mercy seat."  It literally was a lid covering the articles of judgment against the children of Israel and all…

Commandments and Beatitudes

Some have said that Yeshua is like Moses for several reasons and one of these is that just as Moses received the decalogue upon the mountain from the hand of God (Exodus 20), Yeshua handled the Beatitudes upon a mount also (Matthew 5), but there is not a complete correspondence. There are some clear differences.  Yeshua was not like Moses, a mere prophet, but divine like his father.  As the father issued the 10…

Prayer for May 24, 2013

Heavenly Father, as I live in the Light of Your Word the devil’s venomous plots are exposed.  I am not caught by surprise but rather I am filled with Your Spirit which prepares us to be on the offense rather than the defense.  We walk in truth and confidence as we stand strong on the day of evil. As we wear…

Almost All

A HEBREW SAGE MIGHT SAY. . .

We are only as strong as what we struggle with.

ALMOST ALL

"According to the Law, ALMOST ALL things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission." [Hebrews 9. 22]

In the OLD COVENANT sin is dealt with by a sacrifice of blood for a covering.  "For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you for making expiation for your lives upon the altar; it is the blood, as…

Waiting On Dad

In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. Psalm 22:4

A husband and wife on vacation at a lake didn’t notice their three‐year‐old son Billy wandering toward the dock to investigate a boat. He tried to stretch his short legs from the dock to the boat, but didn’t quite make it—and fell into six‐feet‐deep water. The splash brought Dad running. He dove into the murky water, groping with his arms and legs trying to find Billy. His lungs nearly bursting, he…

Poem: Those

Help me Lord, to acknowledge those

who labor within my sphere of influence,

for they too deserve my prayers for them.

Help me Lord, to lovingly admonish those

who lack a proper sense of discipline,

for like me, they require spiritual guidance.

Help me Lord, to quietly comfort those

who seek cooperation and genuine fairness,

that serves all of my neighbors equally.

Help me Lord, to forgivingly tolerate those

who are stronger or weaker than…

Poem: Human Veil

Oh the irony of this mortal situation,

being encased in this temporary flesh.

For I’m momentarily bound to this earth,

although I anticipate my heavenly journey.

At the moment of Christ’s crucifixion,

the temple curtain was torn in two by God,

ripping it from the top to its bottom,

which signified His personal invitation…

for unhindered, one-on-one interaction.

And yet I yearn to feel His presence,

knowing that my sin keeps us separated.

Struggling…

A HEBREW SAGE MIGHT SAY. . .

Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, receives the impossible! [Corrie ten Boom]

ENOUGH!

"Then Israel said— It is enough. Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die." [Genesis (Bereshith) 45. 28 Tanakh, Torah]

"It is enough!" (Hebrew: rab— much, great, vast, numerous) is an exclamation of a thing or situation being satisfied, or a need has been fulfilled, or…

Prayer for May 22, 2013

Heavenly Father, Help us to focus on only You and on things of Heaven. Lord, help us to be teachable even as we teach others; whether it is Your holy truths, life’s skills, or a particular occupation.  Grant patience, clarity, and purpose in the way we conduct ourselves and in the way we are perceived…

Throwing in the Red flag...

When a head coach on an NFL team perceives that the referee has made a wrong call, awarding a key play to the opposition, he throws out a red flag. This red flag signals that the referee needs to review the play again. Obviously the coach believes that the referee has made a mistake.   There are times in our lives, especially when we are caught between a rock and a hard place, when we want to throw a red flag out on God. We want to stop the game and throw down the red flag because it looks…
