Do teachers in public-school systems have a “special ethics” code that prevents them from publicly speaking on policy issues?
Lake County Schools in Florida suspended Jerry Buell, a high-school teacher with a reportedly impeccable record for 22 years, for posting his opposition to New York’s new gay-marriage law, and will start termination proceedings against him.
The case will test First Amendment rights and encroaching political correctness . . . .
The school district suspended Buell, who had been the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2010-11, because they are concerned that gay students might be “frightened or intimidated” in his class.
That’s a pretty thin rationale for punishing someone over what appears to be more or less mainstream opposition to the gay-marriage law. Even saying the above in a classroom would be a thin rationale for disciplinary action, unless school districts will be taking action against all teachers who talk politics in the classroom, and a Facebook posting is not a classroom speech.
If this were at a private school, then the school would entirely be within its rights to dismiss the man. But, a public school should only be able to dismiss him if it holds all its teachers to a similar standard, suspending them from publicly speaking out on political issues.
Could Christian students be intimidated if they heard a teacher speak out against the public expression of their faith? What do you think.

Time-Warner Gifts Airtime to HRC
There may be no such thing as bad publicity, In Albany Times-Union, reporter Jimmy Vielkind exposes a secret partnership between Time Warner Cable and HRC that resulted in more than $70,000 of free airtime to homosexual activists. Apparently, the communications giant decided to broadcast HRC's pro-gay ads as free Public Service Announcements, which are reserved for non-political statements from non-political groups. When confronted about this special treatment for HRC, Time Warner abruptly "decided to declare [ads] as lobbying." Even so, reports the Times-Union, it's lobbying for which HRC has not paid.
It's also an endorsement for same-sex "marriage" that Time-Warner claims it would not make. According to company spokespeople, the cable giant "[hasn't] taken any position on the issue." Obviously, that message hasn't gotten to Susan Leepson, a regional vice president at the company, who admitted, "We enjoy a great partnership with HRC." For its part, HRC said it "greatly appreciate[s] our partnership with Time Warner" -- I'll bet! -- "and looks forward to working with them again in the future." The National Organization for Marriage (NOM), meanwhile, should be wondering about its share of free ad space. If Time Warner isn't picking sides, there's no reason why the company shouldn't write NOM a $70,846 check for the sake of true equality.
Those who hold godless ideologies have long understood that the best way to transform societies and change the way people traditionally think is by indoctrinating children from the earliest stages of education. In the last century, this methodology was effectively employed by those who held the atheistic ideologies of Nazism in Germany and Communism in countries such as the Soviet Union, where the state assumed total control of the educational system—even to the extent of turning children against parents. Of course, both of these worldviews fully embraced Darwinian evolution as a way to justify their actions and nullify the beliefs of their largely Christian populations. While U.S. federal government does not have that kind of authority in our school system (not yet, anyway), is it any wonder that those who lack a biblical worldview in our country, including those with a gay agenda, have seized upon our primary schools as the main vehicle of transforming our nation more to their liking?
In America, the adoption of evolution in our schools has paved the way for the introduction of the gay agenda. Those pushing it understand that nothing will more thoroughly and quickly undermine the traditional biblical foundations of our country than the normalization of homosexuality among our nation’s school children, regardless of their parents’ beliefs. Currently, under the banner of “tolerance” or “equal rights,” states like Massachusetts, New York, California, Wisconsin and Minnesota are actively implementing a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) curriculum in their public schools. But those behind the effort to legitimize LGBT lifestyles won’t be content until this kind of curricula is taught in all of our nation’s schools. So what is being taught, you might ask, that should concern those of us in the creationist community?
