LESSONS FOR CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP
Jesus said, "Therefore GO and make disciples of all nations..." Matthew 28:19
A disciple is a follower or learner. In the case of Christianity, a Christian disciple is a follower and learner of Jesus Christ. Jesus no longer walks the earth to personally disciple individuals, as He did with the apostles. He has left His Word in the hands of faithful disciples who have the responsibility of discipling each other and the world.
The purpose of discipleship is to take individual new believers and help them to grow in a mature relationship with Jesus Christ! 2 Timothy 2:2 "The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others."

What is Commitment? When we become Christians, we get some things and God gets something. We get the forgiveness of sins, the gift of the Holy Spirit, at least one spiritual gift for ministry, fellowship in the body of Christ (the Church), new brothers and sisters in the family of God, eternal life in heaven, and the list goes on. But what does God get? A few gifts we can gather up? A little of our time? A prayer once in a while? Our presence in church once a week? NO, He gets you...all of you!
We love the first part of the arrangment, but not so much the second. See, true commitment is understanding the terms of the covenant relationship we have with God. You are committing all of yourself to all of Him. Commitment is loyalty, regardless of the cost. It is following whether you feel good about it or not- sheer, unadulterated, undiluted obedience- never less than 100%. It is never conditional- never negotiable, never adjustable, just required! It never says "why?" it only says "where and how soon?" Commitment never goes on strick- never asks for leaves- never rewrites the contract, does not seek short-cuts. Commitment never retires, never puts God on hold, and never quits.
Jesus is still looking for individuals who are willing to commit to Him. The takers are a dime a dozen, you can find them going forward in many churches, at crusades. But commitment is another thing. In a day of short-cuts, fast bucks, 50-60 hour work weeks, and fat wallets, real commitment to Christ has become scarce! But Jesus accepts nothing less- dont be fooled.
If you are ready for this kind of commitment to Jesus...write these words down: "I believe that I must grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, and I know I must help others come to Christ and help them grow on to maturity. I commit myself to discipleship and to You Lord Jesus!" Sign your name next to these words and date it. This will be your personal "Declaration of Commitment"!

Comment by Pamela Kohl on August 21, 2012 at 1:29pm To know Jesus and the Father is to accept His Written Word. This calls for active knowing. Active knowing involves reading the Word of God, and acting upon what you read and believe. This active knowing brings hope and healing as you walk through the truths found in the Bible. To know Him is to love Him. To love Him is to walk in obedience as revealed in the Word of God.

Comment by Apostle Paul Johnson Asamoah on May 29, 2012 at 11:22pm Freedom Creating Kind of Truth
When you know something down in your knower, it is then it produces freedom. When you read this next scripture pay attention pay close attention to “knowing” the truth.
(Joh 8:31) Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed. (Joh 8:32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
(Joh 8:36) If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
When you get into the Word of God, you must pay close attention to it to obey…
(Deu 28:1) And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.
(Deu 28:2) And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
When you read the names of Jesus, one of them is the “Word.” Abiding in the Word of God is abiding in Jesus.
(Joh 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
In my opinion, for believers one of the most important scriptures in the word is found in…
(Rom 10:17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
You hear and keep on hearing the Word of God. That is what makes faith. It does not tell us that faith comes by having heard. It comes from “hearing.” We must continue hearing. It is then that the head knowledge will drop down in our hearts and we will then have “heart knowledge” which will become faith. If you will look again at John 8:31-32, you see that you must continue in His Word. Continue hearing it and hearing it and hearing it and then you shall know the freedom creating truth of the Word of God.
Continuing in Christ also means abide continually in Him and allowing Him in you.
(Joh 15:7) If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
When you abide in Him, you are walking in your salvation. You wash your mind in the Word of God daily. You pray in your language and in the Holy Ghost. You act on His promises.
