In 1982, Reader's Digest decided to make the Bible easier to read. Translators, paraphrasers and a variety of religious entrepreneurs have been providing more and more modern versions of the Bible to keep pace with our rapidly deteriorating use of the English language. Reader's Digest went one step further, condensing the Bible—excising what they considered extraneous"—providing an abridged version called The Reader's Digest Bible.
Among the passages deemed "unnecessary" were the many genealogies. Yet, the frequency with which genealogies appear in the Scriptures is evidence of their importance. Genealogies established one's Jewishness, one's tribal identity, one's right to the priesthood and one's right to kingship.
What should be our response to the cutting up of the scriptures mentioned concerning this move made by Reader’s Digest? Personally, the sections deleted from the Bible in order to make it “readable” for the modern reader is wrong! No wonder a bible teacher said we need to be careful when choosing a translation. The genealogies are important because they give reveal how God worked through various individuals. They are not just a list of names. God would not instruct His “secretaries” to include them in the original manuscript if they were not important. We cannot pick and choose what scriptures can and cannot be included. Note what genealogies do for the Jews. We would have never known Jesus’ proof of His Jewishness unless it was written down for our study!
What do you say?

Hi Pamela In this video a hands on approach of the Bible is followed, exposing the blatant changes that have been made in modern translations to rob Christ of His pre eminence. See for yourself and prove whether these things are so.http://amazingdiscoveries.tv/media/126/214-med-changing-the-word-pa...

I have a habit of quoting scripture from the KJV. I have always loved the KJV. Thank you for giving me this information. I will lay aside the NASB, become faithful to the KJV. I always questioned the NASB. Now I have received the truth. I asked Jesus to let truth prevail even in studying the Bible. May God continue to bless you as you walk in the Spirit of Truth.
